2020 in Nonfiction Books

My book list of books is so 2020. Most of them I didn’t finish or didn’t even start. While I LOVE nonfiction, I couldn’t concentrate enough on them this year. (no wonder, right?)

This looks cozy… but my favorite reading place this year was in my hammock in the backyard. I can’t wait for the weather to be warm enough to do it again.

Books I read in 2020:

UNTAMED by Glennon Doyle. If you haven’t read it, do it. #youracheetah

The Body is Not an Apology by Sonya Renee Taylor. SO SO good. And follow her on #insta.

If Women Rose Rooted by Sharon Blackie Great book especially for women with Celtic or Irish heritage and/or lineage.

Playing Big by Tara Mohr (might have been at the end of 2019) who can remember. So good!

The Book Of Kelle by Lochlainn Seabrook. Not much on Kelle, but more of a small glossary of Goddesses and Goddess worship around the world. Wouldn't recommend.

Here are the books I started reading in 2020:

Pleasure Activism by adrienne maree brown. I know it's good, but it's like short stories so I read a little, then read other things.

Radical Belonging by Lindo Bacon. I read this every time I use my sauna and it is GOLD. Updated note: Since Lindo didn’t found HAES and isn’t fat or a BIPOC, I would also encourage you to look for authors from diverse backgrounds on body neutrality and fat liberation.

Body Respect by Lindo Bacon. Almost finished it then Racial Belonging dropped and I switched to that.

My Grandmother's Hands by Resmaa Menakem.  I am in a year long study group in Rooted to work through this somatic experience in community. My friend Larissa encouraged me to do it and I am blessed she did. It's profound and nothing you want to rush.

Caste by Isabel Wilkerson.  I started it.  Very insightful.  Just need to FINISH.

Fearing the Black Body by Sabrina Strings. Great research, but just too academic for my current tastes. I don't want to feel like I am back in college. :)

Skill in Action by Michelle Cassandra Johnson. I didn’t finish this as I don’t have a yoga practice anymore. But if you do practice yoga and care about racial justice this is a book for you.

Books I reread parts of in 2020:

Change Here Now by Adam Brock.  AMAZE BALLS.

Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer Honestly one of the best pieces of indigenous literature about culture and our connection to land out there.

Sacred Circles by Robin Deen Carnes & Sally Craig. This book is a foundational book for my program HELD and any community I am co-creating. PRICELESS.

Book I bought but haven’t started.

So I guess 2021 books?

How We Show Up by Mia Birdsong.  I haven't started but it looks good.

Conflict is Not Abuse by Sarah Schulman.  I am sure I bought this on Kelly Diel's recommendation.  Now to read it. :)

We Will Not Cancel Us by amb  I will read it as soon as I can find where in the world I set it down. LMAO

Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole & Elyse Resch.  Haven't cracked it open yet... but now that I am getting help with the intense cravings from PCOS (insulin resistance) I can start doing more of this work for myself.

The Universe Always has a Plan by Matt Kahn. Matt was a guest on Bliss & Grit podcast so I ordered this book. Still need to read it.

I Do It with the Lights On by Whitney Way Thore  #antidiet and body neutrality. My HAES nutritional therapist recommended this one to me.

My intention for this year is to schedule more time in for relaxing and reading. Here’s to 2021!
